wilson: episode 3 "piracy"

director's commentary

this is, in my opinion, where WotWWW (thats Wilson of the World Wide Web) finally found its identity.

i was able to establish the world more than i could in the two prior episodes, and the narrative feels more concrete.
you might think of this as the first proper episode.

the first (and currently only) intentional Ratboy Genuis reference appears in this episode.
yeah, the weird yellow rodent-esque ghost creature thing. NOT the yellow rat-boy from cooking with mac... i really don't know what to tell you, but it's the truth!

a flat png of columbo is also present at the le musique emporium crime scene. i was watching a lot of columbo at the time and embarrassingly developed a little bit of a crush on him.
i know, i know.

you might notice that this episode looks kinda strange compared to the others, see if you can figure out why!
(spoilers below!)

the reason is that most of the scenes in this episode are lacking shadows!
this was on purpose.
i wanted to experiment with the visuals a little and this was the result. if i were to remake this episode, i would probably turn them back on. without shadows everything just looks kind of... wrong...

there are a few scenes, like inside of mr. internets house, where i FORGOT to turn them off.
ah well, che sarĂ  sarĂ !

bonus fact: the song that plays over the credits is Tiny Tim's cover of Rebel Yell.
it comes from his classic rock album... with a twist: Chameleon.

it's unfathomably goofy and i am genuinely so fucking fascinated by it. like seriously, go listen to the full thing and tell me who it is for.
absolutely bananas.
